Mmm...Muggabears
![]() As you probably know by now, I have this special affinity for mid-nineties noise rock and slacker rock: Sonic Youth, Pavement, Chavez, Eric's Trip, and the list goes on. If you're a band and you play it loose and loud, you'll get a few spins from me. In come The Muggabears, a three piece from NYC via Texas who incorporate ideas from some of the past's greatest noise merchants. Singer/guitarist Travis Johnson has a bit of Malkmus in his voice and a good deal of Sonic Youth in his six string. This magnificent noise is rounded out by Emily Ambruso on bass and Kevin Murphy on drums. They've just released the Teenage Cop ep. Check out "Sister Now." Turn that volume up as loud as your ears can handle. Then turn it up a couple notches more and lose yourself in that aural assault of feedback, reverb, and distortion.
