Much to Rock About This Weekend: Soulsavers, Death, and Free Local Music from Founding Fathers and Prisoners

Friday, September 25th: HR of Bad Brains @ Now That's Class. Prisoners 7" Release show at Blue Arrow Records with beer and snacks and no cover. The action starts at 7 PM with Uno Lady and Mother Country Madmen opening. Free show featuring Founding Fathers, Sun God, We March at the Grog Shop.

Saturday, September 26th: Soulsavers feat. Mark Lanegan, Redghost, Cobra Verde @ Grog Shop.

Mark Lanegan is one of the most respected singer/songwriters to survive the Seattle grunge explosion of the early '90s. First noted for his work with Screaming Trees, later as a solo artist, and most recently he's been keeping himself busy recording with Isobel Campbell, with Greg Dulli as the Gutter Twins, and as the principal vocalist with the UK production duo, Soulsavers. The latest album by the Soulsavers, Broken, is a mix of muted electronics, gospel, country and blues, with Lanegan's rough and weathered voice providing the perfect accompaniment.

Sunday, September 27th: Death, Rough Francis, and This Moment in Black History at Beachland Ballroom.

Much has been written about Detroit, proto-punks Death, and their recently unearthed recordings. The Scene did a short write up. Mos Def will be producing a documentary of the band. Yet, perhaps the best history of the band to date is still this piece written by Mike Rubin for the New York Times this past March. This Sunday's show at the Beachland Tavern is one, of but a handful of dates, the band will be playing and is one you won't want to miss.
